Yes, Russia is not included in the current tariff raise by Trump. But the 2 countries trade is non existent, companies are legally forbidden to trade with Russia. This question is not a gotcha moment for anti Trump crowd but reflects how ignorant a typical American to international politics.

Reality is quite different though. The USA and the EU didn't impose tariffs on Russia, they just stole our money in an attempt to destroy our economy. They failed entirely to do it and made a big blow to their reputation. And it is one of the reasons (but not a main one) why  Trump has to save the USA economy with radical measures. Now the US import only essential  goods from Russia, things and materials they can't produce by themselves. Without Russian enriched Uranium the USA nuclear power plants can't work. But Americans can make jeans and  cars by themselves.

There is basically no trade between Russia and the US that hasn't been sanctioned over the past 3 years. In the rare few cases that trade persists, the Americans are already paying a premium (like on nuclear fuel or titanium parts) because they can't source this kind of stuff anywhere else. Tariffs also won't affect big Russian companies, because they're state-owned or the state has shares in them, meaning they aren't gonna move to the US regardless of the pressure.

* The EU is in the process of renewing its sanctions package against Russia. It must be renewed every six months to remain in effect. This would be the 17th round. The sanctions require unanimous approval from all 27 member nations.

* Sen. Lindsay Graham (R-SC) has proposed a sanction package on Russia, along with 60+ co-sponsors. However, while Graham claims to have broad support in the Senate, it is not at all clear that he has support from the President or the House of Representatives. Currently, the legislation is only in draft form, so it is not even a bill yet.

* French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot has spoken with Sen. Lindsay Graham and expressed a wish to coordinate sanctions: "We Europeans will accompany this American initiative with a 17th package of sanctions and I committed yesterday to Lindsey Graham that we would try to coordinate both the substance and the timing of these two packages of sanctions."

As of now, the EU sanctions have not yet been renewed, the U.S. sanctions is only a draft Senate bill with uncertain support, and the "joint development" claim is based on the view of French Foreign Minister Barrot.

I think the west can misunderstand Russia in this case. They think that Russia wants to be an European state so they can turn it over against china if they feel too much threat of becoming china's colony and never becoming a European state. In fact the Russian government wants absolute power over their people, nuclear weapons to blackmail small countries and "infinite" money for their oligarchy. So as long as china won't pose a threat to these government priorities Russia doesn't care about becoming their colony and any sanctions won't work. It won't hurt to impose them though so killing innocent people won't come for them as easily as it could be.

I’ll never forgive Trump for cutting off intelligence to Ukraine and trying to force them into a bogus peace deal. Ukrainian lives were lost over that. 

Maybe I’m wrong but I think Trump has an admiration for dictators like Putin, (obvious I know) and was willing to take their side because of that. He could even be an asset. Ultimately, I don’t think he cared about the outcome of the war, he wanted a quick win and genuinely thought Ukraine had no chance to continue resisting. 

Though now that’s it’s clear Trump can’t get a “quick win” by ending the war, he’s just lifting objections to tougher sanctions on Russia, and allowing those who support Ukraine to do what they always wanted to do. I would wager Ukraine will need to “walk on eggshells” though because this manchild changes his mind so much this could change tomorrow. 

He’s ruining our country, the least he could do is not spread his damn misery around the world as much…
